If all goes well it should generate a new grub.cfg file and end with the line done. Now open a terminal using Ctrl+Alt+T (in Gnome) and enterĮnter your login password when asked. Once you've made the changes save the file and exit. Now add a new line after that one with the value GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX= setting the value after the = to the same as you used before. Ensure your monitor is able to handle the resolution you set or you will probably get a black screen. You can change the colour depth by added it to the end of the value as in x32 for 32 bit colour. If you want a higher resolution you can change the value after the =, but I recommend you stick to one of the common resolutions 800圆00, 1024x768 or 1280x1024. In the editor find the line #GRUB_GFXMODE=640x480 and delete the leading #. Open a Run box with Alt+F2, enter gksu gedit /etc/default/grub and click Run. Note using Startup Manager adds deprecated options to your grub config and may overwrite any existing kernel options you have already added, so here is an alternative method:
